About This Winery

Features:

VA Wine In My Pocket has not yet drunk the wine here.

Description:

Creek's Edge joined the Virginia wine community in April 2014. We haven't visited yet, so we'll share their own message and invitation to you. We'll update you with our own review once we've stopped in; let us know what you think through the Comments area here!

"Creek’s Edge Winery is in Taylorstown, Virginia in Loudoun County along the Catoctin Creek. Established in 2007, the vineyard contains 4.5 acres planted with Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2014, the winery purchased a new property and began with a 4.5 acre planting of Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. After many years in "corporate America," Tedd and Dana Durden embarked on building a winery that would be a warm and inviting environment to come and enjoy the wine and stay for the views. Tedd and Dana set out to create lasting family traditions which can be passed through the generations." For groups of 10 or more, see the Group Policy here.

At opening, here's what Creek's Edge was making: Vidal Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin.

Beautiful tasting room!

This tasting room is beautiful!! Lots of tables, chairs, seating with a very nice stone fireplace. A beautiful deck has comfortable tables and chairs as well as whimsical fish adirondack chairs and white rocking chairs. The wines are very nice. I really enjoyed the Vidal blanc and the cab franc. Creeks Edge offer some nice lite fare plates. I enjoyed a very nice cheese plate served with warm focaccia bread. Marinated olives and delicious goat cheese with chives. We met Dana one of the owners who did our tasting. Very sweet and personable. You must check out the silo that's been converted into an amazing spiral staircase leading up to the loft and down to the cellar. Absolutely stunning!!!!

Room to Improve

I understand that this is a new winery, but as a new winery you think there would be excitement and passion coming from it to help "sell" visitors on it and help spread the word. Sadly, no. We had one of the owners pour our tasting and it was a miserable experience. Don't get me wrong - the wines are actually decent. But half the fun of wineries is the overall experience. Our tasting pourer did nothing more than the very basic "This is our Pinot Gris. It's a light white wine." Seriously, that was it and she walked away. It's not like it was crowded either. There was no enthusiasm, no excitement, no explanation, or stories of why they decided to open a winery, nothing. You'd think an owner if anything would their biggest champion and be setting the best tone for the winery. When we asked questions to try to start a conversation, her answer was "This was my husband's idea". Yes, clearly it was because she shouldn't be the face of the business with her "I'm bored and uninterested" demeanor. With so many options in the area, there are much better wines and experiences to be had.

Welcomed addition the the NOVA wine scene!

6/8/14

Brand.Spanking.New! Since it's opening in April 2014, Creek's Edge Winery is a welcomed and new addition to the Virginia wine scene. After scoring a free wine tasting for two (Normally $8 each...Thanks Creek's Edge Winery and VA Wine in my pocket!), manfriend and I were very anxious to visit and check them out. Heads up, my GPS did not recognize their address but luckily manfriend's iPhone took us to Creek's Edge Winery without a problem so make sure to look up directions before you go if you need. Once we had arrived, we parked in their parking lot and made our way to the tasting room. Creek's Edge is serene and scenically beautiful nestled by lush grape vines and trees. Their tasting room is nestled in a former Amish farmhouse renovated with all local materials. Drop lighting, dark varshined wood, stone, and smorgasboard of wine barrel tables, high and low top tables, recliners by the fireplace, a black baby grand piano, and large windows/patio doors make this room rustic, well lit, and beautiful. Loved the different chandeliers, one of which was made from recycled deer antlers. This space would be great to rent out for private events- maybe small wedding, rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, bridal/baby showers, birthday, etc. The patio is lovely and a great place to sit back and relax with a glass of wine. FYI: Pet policy is dogs allowed outside on leash. The winemaker, Melanie, led our wine tasting. She was so welcoming, nice and bubbly. She told us a bit about the winery and how they grow many grapes on premises, and planting more a few miles away that weekend. Available for our tasting were the 2011 Pinot Gris, 2011 Vidal Blanc, 2011 Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and 2009 Chambourcin. Their whites were clean and crisp and their reds were pretty fragrant, dry, and pretty great- I was a big fan of their reds and couldn't help but take a bottle of merlot home (lighter than your average merlot and quite lovely). I enjoyed my experience at Creek's Edge and would recommend any Virginia wine lover to visit, without hesitation. I definitely hope to be back. Cheers!
