From the Winery’s Blurb:

Wintergreen winery is a family owned business ~ purchased by Jeff and Tamara Stone in 1999. Jeff and Tamara were both enjoying successful careers in marketing and restaurant management, they were looking for an opportunity that would allow them to collaborate and work together at something they are both passionate about. Another big goal was finding a situation that would allow them more time to focus on their family.

When people visit Wintergreen Winery and learn about the operation, they are always amazed at how much gets accomplished by so few! We depend on a small dedicated staff, loyal customers and friends, supportive family members and a healthy dose of luck & perseverance to get it all done. This is especially true during our very busiest months in the Fall when the harvest arrives, crush begins, the foliage peaks, and visitors at the winery and festivals are at the highest level. We are grateful for the abundance of help we get.

Located in picturesque Nelson County, we consistently create handcrafted, award-winning vintages in the heart of Virginia’s celebrated Monticello wine region. We offer a friendly, unpretentious wine experience. The rugged panorama of the Blue Ridge combines with the tranquil flow of the Rockfish River to create an idyllic setting for our family winery.

Our Visit:

We visited Wintergreen Winery on 26 September 2010.
With Wintergreen Resort nearby, we expected a resort-y feel, but found a rambling white farm building with sloping green tin roof and a great country store feel to it. It’s a small operation, an organic part of the surrounding fields and mountains. The fragrant mulled Apple wine being sampled – a specialty here that you can take home – made a cool, drab day warm and toasty.

Picnic tables dot the big lawn, and a separate event building – “The Veranda” – sits across the parking lot.

Kids and pets welcome; private parties and weddings; picnics welcome; buses/RVs with advance reservations; reservations for groups of 10 or more (tasting fee applies).

No AT&T signal.
