From the Winery’s Blurb:

We just opened Sept. 7!

Tasting / Visiting:

Open Thursday-Sunday, 11am-5pm. Tastings cost $3 (waived with purchase of four bottles).

Our Visit:

We visited Vault Field Vineyards on 7 August. Here’s a link to Nancy’s post on our visit.

Northern Neck corn greets you as you turn into Vault Field. It’s a double-edged sword, that corn. If it’s healthy and green, the farmers are fat and happy. If it’s dry and brown, the wine growers do a little jig. Dry is good for grapevines (within reason)– it concentrates the grape juice and makes great wine possible in the coming year.

Jigs all around the day we visited Vault Field. The corn was brown, the tasting room business was steady, and plans to expand into a bigger space were shaping up. Growth abounds at Vault Field.

Moving the tasting room into the house next door will provide more space for visitors, and also more space for wine storage, since the current tasting bar is in a carved-out little nook in the barrel room. It’s an extremely charming little nook, though, with white lights draped over the barrels. The overalll efect is romantic and intimate.

The six wines we tasted were all really nice, and we walked out with four bottles, including a Calfornia-style steel/oak Chardonnay ($15.50) and the winery’s Bordeaux-style Reserve Red ($25.50).

Picnic table in the vineyard; winery available for private parties.

The Wines: When we visited, the winery was tasting …

Chardonnay; Vidal Blanc; Conundrum (blend of Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, and Chardonel) Rose; Red (blend of Merlot, Cab Sauvignon, and Chambourcin); Reserve Red (blend of Cab Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot).
