From the Winery’s Blurb:

Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Lazy Days Vineyard & Winery offers a broad spectacular view of the natural beauty of Virginia. Close to both Charlottesville and Lynchburg, it’s easy to reach Lazy Days and enjoy our Virginia wines.

The first grapes were planted here three years ago and we’re now enjoying the first harvest. You can try our wines for free and buy a bottle or a case to take home some of our local flavor and some wonderful varietals.

The Lazy Days Winery is situated in beautiful Amherst County and builds on more than just the local land. The old Amherst Livestock Pavilion has been converted and turned into a modern, comfortable tasting room and event area.

Couples and families will enjoy sitting inside, basking in the sunshine pouring in from the stained glass window while sipping and tasting our selection of wines.

Just outside is a large covered area perfect for events, weddings and vendors during festivals.

The vineyard was planted at the center of three acres surrounded by a large green lawn, a tree-lined hill, and the new winery. We’ve carefully planned our location and layout to host tours, weddings, musical performances, and festivals.

The Virginia Summer Solstice Wine Festival and Central Virginia Land Conservancy’s annual event are hosted here, capitalizing on the incredible view and spacious outdoor area. More festivals are in the works and we’re working on restoring the 300-seat indoor theater so we can host even more events and gatherings.

Tasting / Visiting:

Tasting Room Hours: Wednesday-Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM. There’s no tasting fee.

Our Visit:

We visited Lazy Days on 13 October 2010.

The winery and tasting room are housed in what was once the massive Central Virginia Livestock Yard, so there’s plenty of space to spread out with a picnic, either in the old barns or on the grounds.

A small, spare but elegant tasting room, opened in September 2010, is in contrast to the rustic surroundings.

The highly respected winemaker, Michael Shaps, has been brought in to consult on wine creation, which bodes well for this start up.

Kids and pets welcome; weddings and private parties accommodated.

The Wines: When we visited, the winery was tasting …

Viognier, petit manseng, Sweet Lazy Days (vidal-chardonnay blend), petit verdot, and merlot.
