From the Winery’s Blurb:

“Our goal when you visit our winery is to provide a very unique, memorable and personal wine tasting experience. A typical tasting will include several different wines and foods as part of the visit to allow you to experience how wines and foods interact. Each tasting can last between 10 to 20 minutes.

Since we have available at the winery between 10 – 12 wines, we rotate the wines on our tasting card almost every week.”

Tasting / Visiting:

Tasting Room Hours: Monday – Friday 11-5, Saturday & Sunday 11-6, year round. Tastings cost $6, or $8 for groups of 8 or more.

Our Visit:

We visited Fox Meadow in November 2010.

Fox Meadows offers a relaxed tasting (figure 20 minutes) with a tasting sheet that changes weekly and food pairings to bring out the qualities of the wine.

On our visit, an oaky Chardonnay paired with a bit of gouda with cilantro, tomato and garlic; Cab Franc went with horseradish cheddar; Pinot Gris with white stilton and apricot.

There was a fourth pairing, but once I caught sight of the chili being served, I lost track. (Check their website for Chili Days, with chili from The Apple House in Linden – a big bowl with bread and glass of wine goes for $14.)

The tasting room stays busy on weekends, but the flow is managed well, with tastings happening at two bars at once. Take a seat on the raised deck outside to enjoy the long mountain view.

A large, paved parking area is suitable for RV and bus parking; large or small picnics are welcome; weddings and private parties can be accommodated; groups larger than 8 must call for reservations.

The Wines: When we visited, the winery was tasting …

Pinot Gris, Viognier, Chardonnay, plus Freezeland, a blend of Chardonnay, Vidal, Pinot Grigio and Rkatsiteli, and Le Renard Gris, a blend of Chardonnay, Vidal and Pinot Grigio, along with Merlot, Syrah, Cab Franc, the sweet blend of Cabernet Franc & Mourvedre called Freezeland Red, and Le Renard Rouge, a Meritage blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot that later went on to win the 2011 Virginia Governor’s Cup.
