From the Winery’s Blurb:

Welcome to the DelFosse Vineyards & Winery, the newest vineyard in Virginia! Nestled in a quiet valley at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, DelFosse Vineyards & Winery invites you to come explore. A brief thirty-minute drive from Charlottesville will lead you to our scenic location where you can experience the solitude of the Virginia countryside.

We offer a variety of activities for your enjoyment. Take a tour of the vineyard, one of the only terraced vineyards in the state. Taste our unique variety of wines, ranging from Merlot to Petit Mensang. Bring the family and enjoy a calm picnic by the lake. Soon you will be able to enjoy a hike or a bike ride on one of the many trails we are creating that will surround the vineyard.

DelFosse Vineyards & Winery was established in 2000 in the Monticello AVA wine region. The location is exquisite, hugged between the hills, but with the elevation to guarantee not only flavorful wine but also breathtaking views. The area, which spans over 330 acres, will eventually include five miles of hiking and biking trails, a functional spring for the bottling of spring water, and historically preserved buildings. So go climb a mountain!—and reward yourself with some wine upon your return.

Tasting / Visiting Hours: (from the winery’s website)

Tasting fee $5. Open Wednesday to Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm. Monday and Tuesday by appointment.

Our Visit:

See warning about driving directions below.

As much an event venue as a winery, DelFosse thinks big.

The winery can accommodate multiple events at once, all with views over the truly spectacular terraced vineyards and lake, with the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains as the backdrop.

A romantic (completely renovated) log cabin sleeps two, with a patio overlooking the winery for warmer weather, and a big fireplace for cool days and nights. ($225 for a weekend or $550 for a week; discounts for wine club members.)

And soon, guests will be able to hike and bike more than 5 miles of trails across the vast estate.

A full schedule of winery events includes Winemaker’s Wine Dinners, BBQ’s, cooking classes, Sunday brunches, concerts and special events like the Season Opening party in March, Barrel Tasting in April, and Bastille Day in July. Make reservations online.

All special events welcome, with plenty of parking for guests, buses and RVs; picnic areas around the grounds; pets are welcome; bring the kids.

All the usual Virginia wines are represented here (the Chardonnay is particularly good), plus Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, Malbec, and Petit Verdot.

The Winery’s Driving Directions

Note: When coming from points West, i.e. Route 151, Mapquest may direct you to turn from Rte 6 onto Rte 634 and take you for a long ride over a very windy unpaved mountain road for 3 miles. The better way to come from points West is to follow Rte 6 to Rte 29 North for 3 miles and turn left on Rte 616. Look for the grape cluster signs.
