From the Winery’s Blurb:

Owners Rusty & Ruth Rhea Cox invite you to visit our farm winery and vineyards in the enchanting mountains of beautiful Southwestern Virginia. Drop by theTasting Room to sample our wines on a 100 year-old, handcrafted oak bar. Tour the winery and browse our gift shop or simply relax on the terrace and take in the beautiful mountain scenery.

Davis Valley Winery is one of the first wineries to produce Corot noir wine. Although Corot Noir™ is a newly recognized wine variety, the 2005 Corot Noir wine in our bottles was 35 years in the making! The vines are 1970 hybrid cross between Seyve Villard and Steuben. Be among the first to sample it!

Our beautiful winery is available for weddings, receptions, special dinners, and other catered events. You will fall in love with the peaceful setting and you’re sure to love our wines as well!

Tasting / Visiting:

Tasting Room Hours: Monday – Saturday 10:00am – 5:00pm; Sunday noon – 5:00pm. Open year-round, except for major holidays. Tastings cost $4.

Our Visit:

We visited Davis Valley on 15 October 2010.

Perched on top of a grassy hill with 360-degree views of farmhouses and vineyards and mountains, Davis Valley lends itself to an hour or so of ohm-ing in lotus pose. Unless you’ve arrived during the annual RV camp out. Then just grab a glass of Corot Noir, pull up a folding chair, and settle in for a party.

The Corot Noir is an interesting wine — it’s sometimes know as “Cornell’s pinot,” referring to the University that conceived the new grape, a hybrid made from Pinot Noir vine grafted to a Steuben root.Try the oaked vs. un-oaked taste test; the oaked is fruity and the unoaked dry as a stone.

The tasting room and winery are cavernous, mostly unadorned spaces that seem right for this vast hilltop aerie. Private parties are welcome.

The Wines: When we visited, the winery was tasting …

Chardonnay, White (blend), Blush (semisweet white), Virginia Breeze (red and white, sweet wines), Davis Valley Red, chambourcin, corot noir, cabernet franc.

Driving Directions

Just off Interstate 81 at exit 54. From the exit, follow the signs. The winery sits atop a hill on Davis Valley Road only 1.8 miles from the exit.
