Our Visit:
“Yummm, port. Cross Keys makes theirs from 100% Touriga Nacional (considered by many to be Portugal’s best wine grape), and ages it for two years in French and American oak barrels. The winemakers say it has distinctive aromas of dark cherries and prune with a hint of sweet kumquat or orange peel on top.
Also interesting here is the international staff, with owners and staff coming from Iran, South Africa, France, and Virginia’s own Rockingham County. And the rather massive size of this facility, with its arched doorways surrounding an open-air piazza. This is a big-operation, big-event kind of place, and we’ll keep our eye on this newcomer.
Weddings and other private events welcome; snacks available for purchase; covered outdoor dining areas; plenty of parking for buses and RVs.
Wines include Vidal Blanc, Chardonnay, Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Meritage, Pinot Noir, plus dessert wines and port-style wine.”
