Our Visit:
A cozy space with a high, beamed ceiling and a grand stone fireplace flanked by leather couches, this is the kind of spot you want to spend the afternoon in. The flow is a little challenging if a crowd arrives – the tasting bar only accommodates two people – but Kathy moves things along by wading out into the crowd, bottle in hand.
One of the most charming decks we’ve seen sits off the tasting room, with the same wood ceiling beams that make you feel as if you’ve just come off the slopes, and a long, framed view of evergreens and mountains in the distance.
Check out Byrd Cellars’ web site – it offers detailed information on each wine, including food pairing suggestions, what to expect from the wine, winemakers notes with info about growing and harvesting the grapes for that particular wine, and interesting background notes about the grape itself.
Wines include Norton, a Cab Sauv/Merlot/Syrah/Norton blend, Apple, Muscat, Blueberry, plus Sangria.
Directions:
The winery is located halfway between Richmond and Charlottesville on Route 6. This is 3.5 miles east of Columbia and 2.5 miles west of George’s Tavern.

The LAT/LON coordinates are correct for your GPS and the Tasting room is open year round saturdays and sundays from 1-5pm and otherwise by appointment or if we are working in the winery (which we usually are) then we are open as well.
