From the Winery’s Blurb:

Burnley Vineyards is one of the oldest Vineyards in the Monticello Viticultural Area. We have 31 acres of vineyards – Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Orange Muscat, Muscat Blanc, Chambourcin, Vidal and Norton. Burnley Vineyards is a family operation. We started planting in the spring of 1977. The first grapes were harvested in 1980. From 1980 throught 1983, all of our grapes were sold to other Virginia Wineries. In 1984. we started our own Virginia Farm Winery. We have been adding to our vineyards every year. We currently have 31 acres of grapes. We currently produce 5,000 cases and 95% of our wines we grow at the winery.

Our Visit:

“We have warm memories of visiting Burnley during our dating days a decade ago. A chill in the air and a ‘Skins game on the TV, we had a relaxed chat with the winery owner (who was sporting a Redskins jersey – remember those glory days?). We bought a couple bottles of Spicy Rivanna and sipped the mulled wine by our first Christmas tree that December.

Burnley’s tasting room is a relaxed, simple space on the second floor, with a large enclosed lounge area. For a centrally-located place to stay along the Monticello Wine Trail, check out Fernando’s Hideaway, a house overlooking Burnley’s vineyards that sleeps up to 4 people for $125-$150 a night.

The winery: Burnley is available for private parties; group tours are welcome and there’s plenty of RV/Bus parking; kids are welcome.

Wines of all varieties are offered here, including Chardonnay, Riesling, Vidal Blanc, Riesling, a Chambourcin blush, plus Cabernet Sauvignon, Norton, Zinfandel, and Rivanna Red, a Beaujolais-style blend.

Interesting sweet choices include Moon Mist, a blend of Muscat Blanc and Orange Muscat, and Peach Fuzz, a tasting concoction made from grape juice and peach juice. Our favorite is still the Spicy Rivanna, which is the red blend with added cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice, anise, orange peel, lemon peel and residual sugar.
