From the Winery’s Blurb:

Albemarle CiderWorks is a family-run Cidery and Tasting Room that produces cider from heritage varieties of apples that can thrive in Albemarle County,Virginia. Thomas Jefferson experimented with 18 or more varieties of apples at Monticello, only a few miles from our orchard at Rural Ridge. We grow a dozen or so of those heritage cultivars that are still extant as well as other old-fashioned varieties that are blended to create full-bodied ciders to rival those produced in the Colonial era.

Tasting / Visiting Hours: (from the winery’s website)

Tasting fee $3. Open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

The Visit by Virginia Wines In My Pocket:

Albemarle is one of only a couple ciderworks in the state, making dry hard cider from apples they’ve been growing for decades. According to Rob, behind the tasting bar, the ciders are particularly good to cook with, and pair well with food.

The cider is served up in an Arts & Crafts-style tasting room with high ceilings, lazy ceiling fans, and light streaming through the ten-foot windows. Step outside to the sunny patio to snack on the ciderwork’s Ploughman’s platter ($14 includes a hot baguette with ham and local cheese) or a cheese and bread plate ($8 for a baguette and local chevre).

With 250 apple varieties grown on the farm, there are plenty to sell, and you can pick a bushel or a peck to take home.

If you want to stay a bit longer, Albemarle offers an on-site B&B (Crossroads Inn, $139 – $199 depending on season and day of week) and Rural Ridge Cottage, a four-bedroom, two bath rental cottage ($299 – $349/night for whole cottage).

Directions:
Located on U.S. Route 29, just south of Charlottesville, about 8/10 miles north of State Route 692. From Charlottesville, proceed exactly 8 miles south from I-64 and turn right onto Rural Ridge Lane.
