It would be a shame not to bring your kids to Wisteria. But on the other hand, if you left them home, you could enjoy the gardens and sunny back deck in peace, without worrying about them roughing up the roosters or love-slapping the sheep.
As much farm as winery, Wisteria is a gentle, quiet spot run by winemaker Moussa and his wife, Sue. Guests are welcome to roam the paths down to the trickle of a creek and lay out a picnic, or settle into an Adirondack chair tucked into a shady corner. In cooler months, near the fireplace in the tasting room is the place to be, or outside toasting marshmallows by the firepit.
Wines are 100% from Virginia grapes, and the owners hope to make that all estate grown, eventually. They include a fairly broad range of varietals and styles, including Pinot Gris (estate), Chardonnay, Viognier, Traminette, Seyval (estate), Vidal, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Carmine (estate), and Norton (estate). They also offer three semi-sweet blends and a dessert wine (Sweet Daisy).
In addition to wine, Wisteria also sometimes sells eggs from their chickens, yarn from their sheep, and chestnuts from their tree out front. Check their calendar of events for sheep shearing and other fun stuff.
Chickens are king here, so leave the pets at home. Groups of 8 or more, please call ahead.
