Formerly Attimo Winery, Whitebarrel was reborn in 2015. Biochemist owner and winemaker Dr. Rik Obiso started small with test plantings in 2006, then expanded rapidly. Seven years later the vineyards were booming, with eleven varietals and thousands of raspberries and blackberries for blending on 18 acres.
The winery will offer Vidal, Chardonnay, blended whites, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, and blended reds. The winery will also produce mango-style, Apple-style, and blush wines.
Rik clearly enjoys experimenting; when we visited he was pouring his amber wine - a Georgian-style process in which white grapes are fermented and aged like reds and the finished product often takes on an orange hue.
The comfortable tasting room is set with lots of tables and chairs, inside and out, for those looking to relax, or enjoying a snack from the winery's kitchen
. Choices currently include a nice assortment of sandwiches, personal pizzas, quiche, cheeses, and desserts.
The winery is pet friendly on the patio and on the grounds The winery is kid friendly. Events and small weddings are welcome. Groups of 10 or more should reserve a space online. Picnics and camping in the vineyard can also be reserved in advance online
