Stone Tower opened to lots of fanfare in fall 2013. One of the new crop of Northern Virginia's designer wineries (and we mean that in the best sense), Stone Tower makes you feel as if you've wandered into the pages of a Martha Stewart magazine.
Two tasting rooms are available, and your choice will depend on whether you are traveling with adult friends, en famille, or with pets in tow. The Harvest Barn is the place for families and those with dogs. Six tasting bars on the lower level ensure no one waits too long to taste, or head upstairs for a seat, or out on the front lawn for a picnic.
The Tower View tasting room is for ages 21 and up, and includes a large bar and a Marketplace with snacks and gifts. (Wine Club members also get access to the barrel-lined Wild Boar Hall.)
For those of us who remember Virginia wineries from back in the day, it's mind-boggling, really, this place, which would fit seamlessly into Napa.
With all this space, Stone Tower is well positioned to capture a healthy share of the Loudoun County wedding market, as well as private/corporate events.
The vineyard plan is as ambitious as the hospitality operation. Currently, 55 acres and 12 varieties are under vine, including Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, Rousanne, Grenache Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Pinot Noir. The goal is to grow to 90 acres over the next few years, making Stone Tower's one of the largest vineyards in the state.
No buses or limos; groups of more than 6 must call ahead for reservations. Leashed dogs are welcome outside.
