Bring your camera to Hillsborough Winery, Brewery & Vineyard - it's made for pictures. Acres of vineyards leading up to the Blue Ridge provide the cinematic backdrop, and the covered stone patio is the perfect perch to drink it all in. Weathered Adirondack chairs dot the property in cozy, romantic pairs. In colder months, settle in by the tasting room's cozy fireplace.
The crowds of loyalists have gotten so big here that tastings are now your choice of six different wine flights. We loved it: seated like humans instead of elbowing up to a bar while nibbling a tasting plate.
A brewery was added in 2018, so beer lovers can now order a pint, growler or tasting flight. Wine and beer in the same tasting room is still a rarity in Virginia.
On weekends and special holidays, you can order off a small menu of made-to-order treats including flatbreads, Panini sandwiches, brat & pretzels, and other interesting shareables.
Table reservations are available for groups who'd like to be seated together in the dining room. Hillsborough's vineyards are planted with grapes of French origin, including Fer Servadou, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Petit Manseng, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Roussane. Wines are generally named for gem stones: Opal is the award-winning full-bodied Petit Manseng; the well-regarded Bloodstone combines Fer Servadou, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tannat.
The tasting room can accommodate small private parties and weddings. Groups of 8 or more, please call ahead for a reservation.
