Tucked into the gap between Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford and the West Virginia line, Giles County is well known to outdoor enthusiasts who paddle the New River, camp in Jefferson National Forest, or hike the Appalachian Trail.

In 2015, Giles Mountain Winery added some libation entertainment to the mix.

Tom and Diane Mullis started modestly, planting three acres of vines on their new 44-acre property. After a few years, they added a hilltop house, then found a winemaking partner. Today, a tiny tasting area in their garage and some outside seating with long distance views host a mostly-local following. Their inaugural bottling featured a small selection of Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc, which sold out quickly. Future plans include an increase in quantity and regular tasting room hours.
