Gadino Cellars is a little off the beaten path, but you'd never know it. When we visited, fifteen cars full of winery-hopping guests packed
the bar, hung out on the stylish chairs flanking the big fireplace, and sat out
on the patio, just yards from the vineyard. Colorful flags, brought back from
Siena, fluttered from the ceiling, remembering the famous Italian horse races,
the Palio di
Siena, and regulation-sized Bocce Ball courts awaited players.
As we sampled Gadino's excellent Pinot Grigio and Viognier, twice
Wine Club members came in to pick up their orders, stopping to chat with the
friendly Aleta and her husband, Bill, as Bill dashed off to lead a private
tour. Gadino Cellars might be what you'd call a "personality driven" winery, where visitors come back often because they're made to feel like family, but that would be doing an injustice to the excellent wine.
The large selection includes Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Viognier, Nebbiolo (from their own small Nebbiolo vineyard), Cab Franc and red and white blends, including a few sweeter-styled wines.
No groups of 7 or more for wine tastings during normal business hours. Small weddings and private parties for up to 30 guests possible; pet friendly (on leash); picnic area and light snacks available for purchase; kids welcome.
