Fox Meadow offers a relaxed tasting (figure 20 minutes) with a tasting sheet that changes weekly and food pairings to bring out the qualities of the wine.
On our visit, an oaky Chardonnay paired with a bit of gouda with cilantro, tomato and garlic; Cab Franc went with horseradish cheddar; Pinot Gris with white stilton and apricot.
There was a fourth pairing, but once I caught sight of the chili being served, we got distracted and lost track. (Check their website for Chili Days, with chili from The Apple House in Linden.)
The tasting room stays busy on weekends, but the flow is managed well, with tastings happening at two bars at once. Take a seat on the raised deck outside to enjoy the long mountain view.
Fox Meadow's Le Renard Rouge took the 2011 Governor's Cup for reds - a very prestigious honor.
Note that only Fox Meadow Wine Club members may bring picnic foods to consume in the tasting room or on the deck -- all others must purchase foods from Fox Meadows. Buses, limos and any groups of 8 or more must call for reservations.
