After three years of building, Wendy and Ed De Mello celebrated Thanksgiving, and then opened their winery doors on Black Friday, 2015.
The De Mellos immediately felt the challenges of getting a vineyard off to a healthy start in Virginia, with a ferocious winter and a few other issues that forced them to do what many others have done before - rip it out and start over.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Riesling, and Vidal Blanc are now growing on their Shenandoah Valley farm, overlooking Quicksburg.
The tasting room is rustic and charming, constructed with reclaimed wood, slate tiles, and a walnut slab counter. Upstairs, an inviting space awaits private parties and event bookings.
