Bluestone Vineyard opened in January 2011 and has done everything right from the day they opened.Their first harvest, in 2009, was processed in a temporary winery, giving them about 500 cases, and careful planning has allowed them to build a new facility and grow to a current production of about 5,000 cases.
They're in excellent hands with vineyard consultant Jeanette Smith and winemaker Michael Shaps, and they've done plenty testing to figure out which varietals work best. (They had 11 varieties on 12 acres when we first visited, but doubled the vineyard size in 2015).
A huge new tasting room and production facility is planned to open in 2016, to accomodate both the increase in visitors and the increase in demand for Bluestone's wine. Guests are welcome to stay and enjoy a glass or bottle on the patio out front, with views of the vineyard.
We found several of the wines to be particularly good, including the Traminette and the Cab Franc, which both had terrific balance. Winemaker Lee Hartman says the sweeter Vidal-Traminette blend, called Beau, is the local favorite.
The winery is wheelchair accessible "from car to tasting bar," welcomes dogs (including in the tasting room) and kids (for whom juice is available). Lee Hartman is happy to lead groups tours/tastings (reserve in advance). Charcuterie, cheeses and other snacks are available for purchase, and there's plenty of parking for buses and RVs.

Whites: Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Several styles of Chardonnay, TraminetteBeau (Vidal Blanc-Traminette blend sweetened to 3% residual sugar), Moscato, Estate Grown Blue Ice. Reds: Rose, Cabernet Franc, Quartz Hill Red (blend of Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, and Chambourcin), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cadenza (a red blend that various every year); Meritage (classic Bordeaux blend), Crooked and Weedy (Sweet Red meant for chilling, mostly Chambourcin).
