Set on Grelen’s 600-acre tree nursery, The Market at Grelen is a must-see destination.

The Market at GrelenThe European-style garden shop sells a unique selection of gardening gifts and plant material. Ever wanted to try your hand at creating a miniature Fairy Garden? Been hunting for quality gardening tools? How about some local jam or Virginia wine? It's all here.

A casual cafe offers tempting farm-to-table sandwiches, salads, snacks and sweets (see the menus here), along with a beautifully curated selection of more than 50 Virginia wines by the bottle, and 40 Virginia beers and ciders.

Market at Grelen wine tastingsTake in the view with your lunch on the Patio, in the Greenhouse or in the Shade Garden. Or have it packed to go and enjoy while hiking Grelen's trails. On Saturdays, the cafe holds tastings of local wine, beer or cider; sign up for a tasting slot when you arrive (or call ahead: 540-672-7268).
Located in Somerset, VA, the Market boasts fabulous views, along with 3.9 miles of walking trails, which connect to James Madison’s Montpelier trails next door. Pick-your-own fruit fields (seasonal) are another popular activity.
Weddings at The Market at GrelenWedding receptions and private events fill a huge, clear-topped tent that opens to mountain views. The picture-perfect pavilion sits on a hillside, and is ringed by patio seating and stone firepits.
For wedding parties and guests wanting to stay awhile, The Market at Grelen has renovated two homes nearby. Spotswood Lodge, is an 11-acre farm that sleeps up to 20, with 8 bedrooms and 7.5 baths.  Boxwood Villa, the newest addition, is a lovely 1891 home set on more than 13 acres and named for the large boxwood circling the house.  It is surprisingly private and sleeps up to 10, with 5 bedrooms and 4 baths.
The Market at Grelen is just a 25-40 minute drive from Charlottesville, an hour from Richmond and 1.5-2 hours from NOVA/D.C. Winery travelers in particular will appreciate its location, between Barboursville Vineyards and Early Mountain Vineyards, and close to the historic towns of Orange and Gordonsville.
