Keswick's vineyard map looks like a viticultural jigsaw puzzle. A little Syrah here, a bit of Verdejo there, with Viognier and Norton providing the big central anchoring pieces. The grape variety is impressive, but the output is tightly controlled: the vineyard's philosophy is high quality, low quantity.
Winemaker Stephen Barnard is one of the most celebrated in the state, with three Virginia Governor's Cups - the state's highest award for wine - on the mantle. Cabernet Franc is the star here, supported by a large cast that includes Touriga, Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and multiple choices of rose' along with several styles of Viognier, Chardonnay, Traminette, and Vidal Blanc.
That same quality-conscious approach shows up in how Keswick builds customer relationships, as well. Want a nice casual outdoor tasting for your group, with the wine maker? Or maybe something a little more upscale in the cellar? Better yet, how about if the winemaker comes to you? They do it all.
Or bring your pooch. Dogs (on leash) are welcome in the tasting room, and the winery's popular Yappy Hours are most Sundays while the weather is nice with special discounts on wine for you and water & treats for your dog. Animal rescue groups bring pets in for adoption on some Sundays as well.
Keswick's Edgewood Estate is very popular wedding venue, where the Estate's imposing white mansion serves as the backdrop for outdoor ceremonies. Check out the wedding blog
for couples' stories and photos.
The winery makes it easy to visit; it's open daily from 10-5.
