Heads

Help these heads go out with a bang

Even thought we dawdled on Sunday and only reached four of the five on our list (sorry, Vino Curioso), we still think we can wrap up the 150 Virginia Wineries in 150 Days Tour a few days early, on December 4! You could knock us over with a feather; the last few weeks have been one big obstacle course of conflicts, and we’d resigned ourselves to having to refer to our five-month jaunt as “150 Wineries in 150 Days (plus three days)” forever after.  Not what you’d call mellifluous.

But John Stewart didn’t need us on the Mall after all, and my sister said don’t come to the hospital because no one’s allowed to see her without her makeup, so we’re still on track.  And now, we need a slam-bang finish.

We need a beautiful winery, some fun people to pose with, and a really excellent glass of wine when it’s all over.

Here are our choices – let us know what you think.

Veramar Vineyard

Twin Oaks Tavern Winery

Corcoran Vineyards

or 8 Chains North

Where shall we put an end to the madness?

Of those four, I would recommend either ending at Veramar or Twin Oaks because they both have an awesome view but different (actually Veramar is also where we got married) and it’s so peaceful and quiet at both. Veramar has more of a scenic view of the countryside, a pond, the mountains in the distance, and their mulled wine I believe is available at the moment whereas Twin Oaks has an amazing view of a more tree landscape and is on a cool slope. I’m sorry I don’t remember Twin Oaks as well but when we visited there they were just opening their tasting room and hadn’t quite finished it up yet. Therefore we didn’t hang out there after the tasting of their two wines. We definitely need to go back sometime soon. Both would make excellent choices.

I would recommend Veramar too. I havent been to Twin Oaks, but do know they only have two wines. If you can, ask Mr. Bogaty to open some reserve wines for tasting.

Veramar is my vote! It has a beautiful setting and award winning wines. I would not want to miss this while exploring the Virginia Wine scene.

Okay I’ve been posting on your Facebook….but I really love 8 Chains North! They are worth the stop and definitely worth the 150th stop. The only wine I liked at Corcoran was the Malbec…and it was just okay I haven’t run back to get it…8 Chains has great whites and reds … the LocoVino excellent white that will be on my turkey day menu, and the Furnace Mountain Red is so smooth and yummy. I’m sorry, I just love this winery!

Wow – all great advice! We would never have known any of this without you guys, so thanks for sharing! We’ll need to mull it over a bit…

Hoping we can get to 11 wineries this weekend down toward Richmond so on the 4th we only have 4 visits instead of 5 and can actually sit for a minute at the last wine and enjoy it!

  6. Kurt Jensen says:

Nancy, can we meet you at the finale? We would like to join you. Just pick a time and we will try to get there.

Kurt! We’d love to meet you there! After this weekend’s visits to Richmond & Frericksburg area we’ll be able to pin down our Dec 4 itinerary and would LOVE to see you! All welcome!!!

  7. Geoff says:

I second what Kurt said about Veramar’s reserve wines. At Veramar, the Estate Club Cab Franc is excellent! It’s one of my favorite Cab Francs. :) I wish I had more than only 1 left in our arsenal. However, I think all four of the vineyards you mentioned have decent wines though.

  8. Kurt Jensen says:

If near Richmond, be sure to visit James River. They make the best Chambourcin we have yet tasted in Va.

We’ll be there this weekend – I’ll make sure my tastebuds are primed and ready!

Veramar Vineyard llc welcomes your visit!

Let us know time and we can help you with the reserve tasting.

Thanks Jim! The majority of votes for where we should end our 150 Wineries in 150 Days tour went to Veramar, so that’s where we’re headed! We’ll see you on December 4. After our Richmond-area tour this weekend, we’ll know whether we are visiting 4 or 5 wineries on 12/4, and that’ll help us figure out about when we’ll arrive at Veramar (thought it’ll be late afternoon for sure). We may have the nice folks from WineAboutVirginia.com joining us there as well, to help celebrate the end of the Tour!

  10. Kurt Jensen says:

    Hey,

If Mr Bogaty is opening a reserve wine we will be there! I have wanted to taste the Veremar reserve wines after being wowed by the Bogati Bodega Vigonier.

  11. Jim Bogaty says:

Please let me know time so I can make arrangement and have staff
    to cover all my customers.

Yes Mr Jensen you may also enjoy the SIX Veramar reserve wines. Also, thank you for your kind comments about Bogati Bodega Winery wines.

    Nancy-
The reserve tasting takes over an hour (some times 1 & 1/2 hours) and we only offer this from 1 pm til 4 pm on select Saturadays. Our Club Members have 1st choice.

Call 540-955-5510 and please let me know so I can make arrangements.

    Cheers

    Jim

Funny enough we were already planning to go there to pick up our wine on 12/4 so perhaps we’ll cross paths. Hope you all enjoy!

    Nancy Reply:

We’ll get there by 2:45 for the reserve tasting – love to see you there! Let Jim Bogaty know if you can join us!
